My destiny burned between the lines

Arseny Tarkovsky, the largest poet of the twentieth century, for many years was known to contemporaries, primarily as a brilliant translator, and few knew that he was writing poetry. The first poetic collection of Tarkovsky was published only in 1962, when the author turned 55 years old. His late debut took place almost simultaneously with the director"s debut of his son Andrei Tarkovsky, who released the film “Ivanovo Childhood” in the same year. Anna Akhmatova called Arseny Tarkovsky a book “A precious gift to the modern reader”: “These verses that have long awaiting their appearance amaze with a number of rare qualities.
