Roman Daphne Dumorye (1907–1989) “My Cousin Rachel”, according to many critics, is not inferior to the famous “Rebecca”, but in some ways surpasses it. This is a wonderful example of the development of the tradition of the “Gothic” and “sensational” novel, the founder of which is considered Wilki Collins: detective intrigue is combined with an unusual love drama, unfolding against the background of the lyrical landscapes of Cornwall and picturesque paintings of Italy in the forties of the 19th century. With each turn of the plot, the reader is increasingly lost in the guesses who is in front of him is a victim of unjust suspicions or a prudent intriguing and a killer, but no matter what version he is inclined, the final will stun him.
