Nadezhda Alexandrovna Teffi (real surname Lohvitskaya) was a true literary star in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. Sharp wit, elegant style, the ability to see the bright sides of life and share her observations with the reader made her works literally beloved by the whole nation. But as is often the case with masters of ironic prose, Teffi's laughter was mixed with tears. This is especially noticeable in the writer's memoirs - about the old, forever gone Russia, about the Civil War, about the forced path into emigration, about friends and acquaintances from the creative intelligentsia and their spiritual struggles and difficult choices in revolutionary Russia...
