Nadezhda Lokhvitskaya (1872–1952), known to everyone by the pseudonym Teffi, was called by her contemporaries the "queen of humor." She was admired by everyone from Nicholas II to Lenin, and her cheerful and ironic stories and feuilletons with witty observations on life and touches of sadness were highly valued.
Having lived through three revolutions, two world wars, and finding herself in emigration in the 1920s, she preserved in her "short prose" immediacy, lightness, and the ability to laugh at ordinary everyday situations, and brought a philosophical character to her memoirs. In Russian Paris, Teffi was one of the favorite writers. There she created "Memories," as well as essays that bring to life A. Kuprin, A. Tolstoy, A. Averchenko, A. Akhmatova, N. Gumilev, S. Yesenin, V. Rozanov, G. Rasputin, A. Kolontai, and many others.
She wanted to create a book called "My Chronicle" from them, but she herself did not have time to compile it.
