The appearance of this textbook is related to the fact that the traditional Music Literature Program for Children's Music Schools was first published in 1956 and, while maintaining its quality, underwent several reprints (in 1962, 1970, 1979, 1982). Naturally, many of the principles and thematic plans of the standard program have become outdated and do not meet the requirements of new approaches and methodologies in music education for children. In recent years, other models of the program have emerged, educational plans that adapt the course content to new historical and socio-cultural conditions, to new trends in comprehensive aesthetic education for children. This textbook is based on years of experience in teaching the subject of 'Music Literature' in Children's Music Schools, as outlined in the author's programs and methodological recommendations of E. Lisyanskaya, Yu. Ageeva, A. Khotuntsov, M. Kuklinskaya, and others. This textbook is structured by alternating monographic themes in accordance with the historical and artistic process. This allows not only to identify the characteristic features of individual works, but also the stylistic traits of great composers, establishing connections between phenomena in musical creativity. The adapted nature of the textbook has allowed for the addition of overview topics on European culture in the second half of the 19th century: romantic composers F. Liszt, R. Schumann, E. Grieg, 19th-century opera, impressionism. The genre diversity of the works contributes to the expansion and deepening of previously acquired knowledge. Understanding that one of the objectives of the subject should be the preparation of active listeners and music lovers, we have included a large amount of introductory material in the textbook aimed at a wide audience of young listeners. Hence, the recurring section 'They say that...' in all four textbooks, some materials of which are borrowed from the collection 'Cheerful Intermission: Curious Stories from the Lives of Musicians / Compiled by I. Artemchuk. - K .: Music Ukraine, 1989 and other popular music publications. Some tasks from the didactic materials of L. Akimova, vol. 4. M .: Rosman, 2002, are included in the summarizing lessons.
