The memories of the position of music in St. Petersburg of the 1840-1860s are written by an eyewitness and participant in the main large events of the cultural life of the city of these years. V. Stasov, brother of the famous critic V.V. Stasov. Dmitry Vasilievich personally made up the reports of the Russian Musical Society, being one of its first five directors and founders, participated in the structure of musical public classes, compiled and processed the organization of the musical school, which was later transformed into the first Russian conservatory.
The work contains information about the programs of the first symphonic concerts, the conductor, performers, the organizers of these concerts are mentioned: A. G. Rubinstein, K. B. Schubert, G. Ya. Lomakin, M. Yu. Vilegorsky, K. N. . Lyadov et al.
