S. Leopold is an outstanding German musicologist, her pen owns a number of serious books -research books on baroque music - including the “Opera Opera in the 17th Century”, "Guide to Mozart", "Musical peaks". Leopold published opera scores of the 17th century, advised many ensembles of ancient music, acted as a playwright in the production of operas Mozart.
In this book, the author focuses on how Gandel realizes his figurative decisions in Seria operas. The general laws of the opera Seria and the paths along which Gandel follows. It is shown how he obeys the rules or how he bypasses them. The features of the musical language and, above all, the DA Capo arias, as well as the issues of "musical topography" are discussed in detail. Female images are not ignored - from fragile beauties to vengeful sorcerers, as well as the roles in which the main stars of the opera Seria - castrates shone.
A separate part of the book is devoted to a detailed description of each of the 39 surviving Handel operas - their literary and historical sources, a brief summary, a list of characters and other information are given
