The book proposed to the reader contains lectures by the doctor of medicine M. S. Erbstein (1872-1933) on anatomy, physiology and hygiene of the respiratory and vocal organs. The introduction explains the need to get acquainted with the structure and activities of the organs involved in the formation of the voice, for all those who devote themselves to the art of singing or recitation. The lectures discuss in detail the structure and activity of the diaphragm, organs of the abdominal and chest cavity, larynx, pharynx, nasal and oral cavity, describes the respiratory mechanism, various types of respiration and their external signs. Breathing as a source of voice is examined, the mechanism of sound formation is considered. The dependence of the properties of sound on the anatomical structure and the activities of various organs is studied. The final lecture is devoted to a special hygiene of voice for professional singers and speakers.
