The author, Nikolai Nikolaevich Kashpor, a Distinguished Forester of the Russian Federation, provides a detailed description of over 600 species of mushrooms in his new book, mainly found in the central part of Russia, as well as partially in the south of the European part of the country, in Siberia, and the Far East. In addition to general morphological characteristics for identification, you will find useful information about look-alike mushrooms, pharmacological and medicinal properties of certain mushroom species, rare and protected mushrooms in Russia and abroad, as well as synonyms and common names found in literature. As a novelty not previously included in any reference book, readers will learn about the complete historiography of mushrooms, precise information about the first mention and the scientist who first discovered each identified species. The origin of the scientific name of each species (etymology) and its modern interpretation in several foreign languages are of particular interest. To harmonize information about mushrooms, all names are provided in Russian and the current Latin names accepted by the International Mycological Nomenclature. The author places special importance on illustrations, believing that a quality color photograph is essential for understanding any mushroom. The book contains over 2,400 exclusive author's photographs taken in the author's numerous expeditions with a camera over the vast forest expanses of Russia in the last 5-10 years.
