The Museum of the Academy of Arts is the oldest artistic assembly of Russia and the first public museum, open for all civil society in the second half of the XVIII century. The year of its foundation is considered to be 1758, when I.I.Shuvalov handed over the Academy of Arts their meeting of Western European painting and drawing. Throughout the subsequent time, the collection was replenished due to paintings and sculptures transmitted from the imperial palaces and gifts of individuals. By the end of the XIX century, he turned into one of the richest museums of the Empire.
From the very beginning of its existence, the museum brought up future Russian artists on the perfect samples of European and domestic art. The meeting received the best final work of graduates of the Academy of Arts, and until the end of the XIX century, the Academic Museum was the first museum of Russian art in the country.
In the first decades of the XX century, great tests fell out on his share - he was deprived of the valuable part of his collection in other museums.
In 1947, the Research Museum of the Academy of Arts became an independent legal entity, one of the scientific institutions in the system of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. Continuing tradition, he is now one of the foci of culture of St. Petersburg.
This book is the first attempt to tell about the history of the Wonderful Petersburg Museum
