Clarissa Dalloway, a socialite in her fifties, is preparing for a party she is hosting at her home. In the morning, she goes out to buy flowers, as she loves them and wants to decorate her house with them by the evening. As she walks through London, she reminisces about her youth and first love. In another part of London, Septimus Warren Smith, a World War I veteran suffering from shell shock, goes with his wife Lucrezia to see a psychiatrist. Smith's day intertwines with Clarissa's and her friends' day, and their lives converge as the party reaches its climax. Upon learning of Smith's tragedy, Clarissa reevaluates her life and her attitude towards death. Virginia Woolf's masterful novel, where past, present, and future merge into one significant day in June 1923. "To the Lighthouse" is an extraordinary book. Two days, separated by a decade. Depicted ideas, moods, and spiritual experiences. Memory gradually and imperceptibly enters this subtle and elegant novel, bringing a larger life. This is Virginia Woolf's most famous work. Within its pages, the Ramsey family, spending the summer on the Isle of Skye, dreams of going to the lighthouse visible from their shore. Every day, Mrs. Ramsey announces that her husband will take them there the next day. However, the trip keeps getting postponed. Through this story, Woolf was able to paint a vivid and intricate picture of human relationships and reveal what women and men think when no one is listening.
