This collection includes five stories (sometimes called fairy tales) created by Vitaly Bianki. They have been reprinted many times and have long been considered classics. The illustrations by Alexander Formozov, on the other hand, are not easy to come by today, even though they were created for the very first editions of these stories. Formozov depicted animals and birds very accurately, close to nature: he was a biologist. At the same time, upon closer inspection, one can appreciate the elegance of his drawing style and distinguish the character and mood of each hero.
