Vladimir Alekseevich Gilyarovsky is a Russian writer, journalist, local historian, the legend of Moscow and its householder, author of the famous book “Moscow and Muscovites” (1934), which is undoubtedly the most colorful history of all that have ever been told about this city. For his kindness and responsiveness, he was called Uncle Gilyai, for the talent of a journalist - the king of reports. In his articles, essays and memoirs, Gilyarovsky captured the daily life of Russia in the second half of the XIX - early twentieth century: thanks to these invaluable evidence of an eyewitness, the memory of the past of Moscow, the Moscow Region and the Russian province was preserved. In addition to “Moscow and Muscovites”, the books “My Wandering” (1928), Friends and Meetings (1934), “Theater People” (1941) were included in the present volume, in which the author fascinatingly and vividly spoke about the experience - about the joys , sorrows, tests and meetings
