This book is the second (supplemented) release of 10 years ago (in 2001) of the reference book the guide "Monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church". It includes brief descriptions for all current monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries. In total, the reference book includes data from more than 700 Orthodox monasteries. In some cases, the lost monasteries and not completely transferred to date for various reasons of the Russian Orthodox Church are described.
During the preparation of the publication, valuable materials received from the dioceses and the monasteries themselves of the Russian Orthodox Church were used, various other sources - thematic literature (including pre -revolutionary), Orthodox Internet resources, the press, as well as books, brochures and booklets of the monasteries themselves.
At the beginning of the guide guide, the Monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church includes an article by Metropolitan of the Kaluga and Borovsk Clement "On Monastery and Monasticities."
