The book tells about 26 monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow: 14 - operating, about the current churches and other Orthodox centers in the territory of 6 invalid monasteries, 6 lost monasteries. They tell about their history, founders, shrines, builders, fate and realities of today. Considerable attention is paid to stories about canonized personalities, whose earthly life was associated with these monasteries. More than 70 extraordinary personalities related to the history of Moscow monasteries are narrated, half of them are ranked by the Orthodox saints. Monasteries were and remain important centers of spirituality and social ministry, bright foci of culture, education, religious art. In the past, they often performed defensive functions.
Monasteries were and remain spiritual strongholds of Orthodoxy. They make it possible to touch the springs of Russian holiness, give a surge of new forces to the thoughtful man for a decent life, the service of Orthodoxy and his fatherland, his people. Visiting monasteries brings peace to the soul, gives joy, improves physical health. The book gives secular information (historical, architectural and artistic, stories about personalities), as well as interesting for believers (telling about Orthodox shrines and relics, earthly life of canonized personalities) and all those who are not indifferent to the Orthodox history of Russia. The book is written in a simple public language
