Mikhail Afanasevich Bulgakov (1891–1940) is one of the most significant Russian writers of the 20th century. He happened to experience both success and disgrace, his words “manuscripts do not burn” accurately convey the tragedy of a whole period in the history of Russian literature, they became a metaphor for genuine creativity. Today, when Bulgakov’s works are included in the Golden Fund of Russian Classics, it is even difficult to imagine how long they went to readers, how cruel the writer was subjected to official criticism. Since the late 1920s, it has practically stopped printing it, the publication of “Notes on the Cuffs” was prohibited, the reprint of the collection of satirical stories “Deviliad”, the manuscript of the novel “Dog Heart” was taken, the publication of the novel “White Guard” was interrupted, and were shot from the repertoire of his play- And the “days of the turbines”, and “running”, and “Zoykin’s apartment” ... After almost a century, all these works have been in constant success among readers, interest in Bulgakov’s work does not weaken.
