The collection includes three novels by the famous St. Petersburg writer Valery Popov: "My History of the Motherland", "We are not slaves" and "everyday life of a harem". They are united by a nostalgic theme, the appeal of the “time of change”, tectonic shifts in society, which appear in the book through private stories of heroes. The ironic and at the same time soft intonation of the author is alien to Paphos, sometimes everyday events reach a grotesque in his narrative, and dramatic episodes are intertwined with comic. The narrator can laugh at himself and his comrades, but he manages to talk about everything with wisdom and calm
