Antoine de Vaal is a French writer and historiographer. It is known, in particular, as one of the co-authors of the vast monograph "Rome, the highest head of the organization and the Main Directorate of the Church" (Paris, 1900, together with Daniel Charles and the Mari-Mari Baumgarten) This volume publishes the novel "Valery", whose events unfold at the beginning of the 4th century AD. Against the backdrop of the implacable confrontation of the two emperors - Konstantin, who was governing Gaul, Spain and Britain, and the Maxentia, who overthrew his own father from the throne, under the rule of Italy, North Africa and Egypt, the author tells of the fate of the main character of Roman, the patrician of Valeria, whose mother, whose mother. The noble Roman, committed suicide so as not to give in to the harassment of Maxentia. Full of thirst for revenge, Valery fanatically preaches the Christian teaching, posed by a serious threat to the power of the criminal emperor, thereby entrusting himself into the whirlpool of dramatic events
