The novel tells the story of a black slave of the cortex, working on a cotton plantation in Virginia, in the heart of the slave south of America of the 19th century. Now, in order to be saved, she has to go full of dangers through the whole country along the secret underground railway, where there are its stations, its guides and a train racing through a black tunnel. And on the heels is followed by a ruthless hunter for Ridgei"s runaway slaves - the one whose name of the mother on plantations scares children, the one who is afraid of more death. In the art world of Whitehead, reality is intertwined with fiction, and historical facts are served in the form of a large -scale parable, in which the executioner is inextricably linked with its victim, the owner becomes a slave to the animal thirst for revenge, and moral dilemmas recede into the background.
