For the first time in Russian, one of the most famous Italian plays of the late Renaissance, the reference shepherd drama, which laid the foundations of Baroque aesthetics, is published in Russian. Jambattist Gvarini, or Guarini (1538-1612) - poet, playwright, diplomat, classic of literature that has never been translated in Russia. Friend and rival of the great Torkvato Tasso, under the impression of his pastoral "amint" in 1585, he created a tragicomedy that was destined to play a key role in theatrical art of the next two centuries. Not at all inclined to praise, the largest Italian literary critic of the 19th century F. de Sanctis called the "faithful shepherd" "The most perfect creation of poetry". The terrible curse of the goddess Diana gravitates over the country of shepherds and nymph arcadia, and only the wedding of the two elect will put an end to the epidemic and human victims, but obstacles are on happiness, and the finale is not at all as expected
