The laureate of the Costa Prize and the finalist of Boker Andrew Miller wrote an intriguing novel about the loneliness and the secret of the human soul.
The mod is mysterious and removed so much that everyone wants to help her and save her lost soul. Tim, a philologist and musician, also sinks on a mysterious girl, a future scientist, whose dream is to explore the sea and his inhabitants. Tim and Mod are combining the attraction to water: they get married, buy a small used yacht, go to sea, give birth to a child.
But for mod, all this is marriage, a child, a slow life - as if a cover. She does not understand the conditions of the world around her, and the world does not understand her desire to live outside the usual conventions. When it is time to understand the boundaries of her inner world, the mod will have to decide on the transition. But is it possible to defeat loneliness with even greater loneliness?
