Alexander Sergeyevich Griboedov (1795-1829) was a playwright and diplomat. In the first period of his work, he created several comedies that were successful with his contemporaries, but soon they were quickly forgotten. In the second period, he wrote the comedy “Woe from Wit”, which was not allowed to censor either on the stage or to the press, but which diverged the author in the lists during the life of the author, and after his death he still lives on stage. This publication shows the path of Griboedov from the first works to the subsequent and explains how Griboedov imagined the theater. The publication is dedicated to the 220th birthday of A.S. Griboedova
