Germany, 1942. Anton Startzman stands on the verge of restlessness, disappointed in his country - humbly bowing his head before Nazism, and in himself - a man who silently observed how evil is performing. He is grunted by a feeling of guilt and awareness of his own helplessness in the face of a "brown plague", striving to destroy all living things. In the hope of reassuring his conscience, Herr Startzman moves to a small village, hoping to find if not happiness, then at least peace in a fictitious marriage with the widow of Elizabeth Herther, whom he promised to help in life and raising children. But is a rural idyll in a world, where every day thousands of innocent people go to death? Anton desperately wants to atone for those whom he could not protect, but what a simple teacher can do against the Nazi car. Everything changes when Anton learns about the underground resistance network, which plugs the attempt on Hitler. Despite his wife"s fears, he enters the ranks of this army. But when the Nazis become aware of the activity of Startzman, he is forced to decide on the last, desperate act of disobedience, which can cost him life
