Kristina Baker Klein is an American writer, the author of several novels, as well as works written in the non-Fiction genre. The novel “The Train of Orphan” (2013), which brought her fame and became a bestseller, is based on the real events of the history of America. In 1854–1929, in order to solve the problem of street children who flooded New York and other cities of the eastern coast, orphans were collected by train and sent to the Middle West, where they were selected foster families. For some of the more than two hundred thousand children, divorced from their roots, adoption was salvation from poverty and hardships, but for someone it turned into house slavery. The main character of the novel, ninety -year -old Vivian, in childhood was a passenger of such a train. It is difficult for her to remember the long -standing past and even more difficult to reconcile with him. And only acquaintance with the seventeen -year -old Molly - an orphan, a difficult teenager - finally helps Vivian to heal the spiritual wounds. The desire to maintain belonging to their family history, self -esteem, a persistent character amazingly bring together two heroines of this exciting and soulful novel, which became a revelation not only for Americans, but also for readers in 30 countries of the world
