This is a story about two sisters, each of whom dreams of life much better than the life of their parents. This is a novel in which three main lines of the writer"s work intertwined: exposure, psychological and romantic -philosophical. And this is the history of a person’s confrontation with a scientific view of the world of the bourgeois -public world, in which money and position in society are decisive, and knowledge and abilities are customary to despise.
In the center of the narrative - the story of the insight of the younger sister of Masha, who suddenly felt that she was able to make a significant contribution to science. But a well -known teacher, having delved into the ideas of Masha, calls on the girl not to rush, assuring that truly mature ideas are ahead. But how long can you bear your own ideas in your head, when in your family - a mess, in the country - unemployment and around - the lack of faith in the importance of any activity that does not bring momentary income?
Will Masha be able to withstand the tests and carry her insight through all the hardships? Or will the bourgeois world absorb it and repay the insight?
