The great era of modern drama began with the public competition of poets and philosophers held in ancient Greece. The names of Aeschylus and Sophocles are known to both schoolchildren and playwrights. We know their works and admire their work. They are interesting, despite the past centuries. After many years, the authors of the 17-19 centuries joined the high style of presentation. We all know the works of Shakespeare, who created his immortal creations, such as Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. But especially strong works were created by domestic authors. At school, our children study the works of N.V. Gogol “Examiner”, A. S. Griboedov “Woe from Wit”, M. Yu. Lermontov “Masquerade”. Of course, the author who writes the play expects his creation in the theater, but some works turned into the classics of Russian literature and took their high place among the works written in other genres.
