For more than thirty years, Elena Makarova tells about the history of Ghetto Terezin and oversees international exhibitions on this topic. On her account is a four-volume historical study "Fortress over the abyss", as well as the novel "Friedl" about the fate of the artist and teacher Fridl Diker-Brandis (1898-1944) The documentary novel "Guide of the Lost" organically continues this many years of work. Based on dialogues with former prisoners of the ghetto and death camps, Makarova creates a wide historical canvas of people"s life, who re -learned to love, trust people, think, work. In the book they talk about a world destroyed by the war, the fragments of which are preserved only in memories. This is the past for them not only a source of pain, but also the foundation on which they had a new life
