Vladimir Krysanov - a successful graduate of Moscow State University, geophysicist - grew up in a deaf Siberian village, where since childhood he already felt on himself all the "charms" of the inside of the Soviet system. After Vladimir refuses to cooperate with the KGB, his scientific career is in question, and the youngest specialist actually refer to the development of oil fields to Siberia.
Not wanting to endure the arbitrariness in the country, Krysanov decides to break out of the socialist "concentration camp" into the free world. But it is impossible to leave the USSR legally, and he decides to run to the west - through Karelia to Finland, and from there to Sweden.
Having passed in inhumanly difficult conditions through the Karelian forests, rivers and swamps almost two hundred kilometers, miraculously avoiding meetings with border guards, Vladimir unnoticed crosses the Finnish border, and then Hitchhiks - safely reaches Stockholm
