Lenin is a more tragic figure than comic, and yet his activity gives enough reasons for ridicule and jokes. The author’s goal was to present in the satirical light not so much the personality of Lenin as the cult of his name. There has been no leader for almost a hundred years, but his cult has successfully survived him.
The proposed collection of invented stories is written in imitation of those invented stories about Ilyich, on which the worldview of the Soviet man was formed and approved. Most of the stories (“fairy tales”) correlate with the events and phenomena of that era that have actually occurred. The absurdity and caricature of these phenomena is sometimes so obvious that to achieve a comic or satirical effect it would be enough to portray them in kind. For the author, in the foreground stood exposure by literary means, through the prism of the joke, the essence of the direction of thought and political practice, which is commonly called Leninism
