Autumn 1943. The life of Italian Jews, such as the Antonina Matsin family, is becoming more dangerous. When Nazi Germany occupies most of her beloved homeland, and the threat of imprisonment and deportation inevitably hangs over it, Nina has only one chance to survive - to leave Venice and her parents to hide in the village, along with a barely familiar man.
Nico Gerardi studied at the priest until the circumstances forced him to leave the seminary to manage the family farm. As a person with high moral principles, he simply could not stay away when the Nazis began to threaten the lives of innocent people. To help Nina, he convinces her to pretend to be his bride.
