Sword and verb: the heroic tradition in Russian literature of the XII-XVII centuries

Military novels are considered as a unique variety of medieval historical and biomatic narrative, their genre transformation is analyzed in the context of the centuries-old development of Russian literature. The specificity of the principles of the plot and the creation of images of heroes of works, the problem of historicism and style is investigated. Thus, the monograph is associated with one of the most important issues of studying ancient Russian literature: about the specifics and principles of the artistry of medieval text. A typological comparison of the studies studied with annals, folklore texts, with translated fiction, Byzantine chronicles, with ancient historical works, including individual books of the Old Testament, with Scandinavian sagas, is carried out. The application publishes two works of "folk" historical prose: written in the XVII century. Based on the "Tales of Mamaev Battle" "The Legend of Mamaev Army" and created in the first half of the XVIII century. "History of Brunzwick", which is based on the plot of the translated knightly novel about Brunzivik, and the most likely prototype of the protagonist is Peter I.
