The novel "embroidery on stolen fabric" is the story of Cinderella from the hinterland that grew up in the family hell, where the father is aggressive and drunk, and the mother cannot protect his daughter and herself. Grandmother, a village healer, conveys the heroine the secrets of traditional medicine, a healing gift and an unbending character. Fifteen -year -old Valentina studies at the regional center for a masseuse and marries Moscow. Unsuccessful marriages and a humiliating romance with the director, force her to earn at a massage table for her own apartment. Valentina visits an esoteric university, takes a mother from the province, adopts a habit of a hassle, opens her office and accidentally gets on television. In Ostankino, she suddenly meets the former minister, who fell in love with many years ago, and a social elevator rushes Valentina to the very top. Life is so accelerated and complicated that Valentine seems to be acting in the cinema all the time, playing someone else"s role. The action of the first part of the novel covers the period from the end of the fifties to the nineties
