A prose writer, a poet, a linguist, a translator, a journalist, publisher, one of the initiators of the modern Arab novel Ahmad Faris Ashdyak (c. 1804-1887) belongs to the generation of writers who wrote in Arabic in the middle of the XIX century. The book has intertwined the traditions of oriental and European literature. Ash Shidyak pays tribute to the traditional genres of Ryhl (description of the journey), Makama (Plutov’s novel) of classical Arabic literature, as well as the satire of Rabelais, Stern, Swift and romantic painting in the spirit of Lamartine and Chateobrian. The author proclaims the two main goals of his book: to introduce the reader to the wonders (Gara"ib) and the rare revolutions (Navadir) of the Arabic language, to sing women, to show all their advantages and disadvantages. The interpretation of the name of the book of Ash-Shidyak "al-Sak" Al As-Sak Fi Mahu Al-Faryak "How" step by step after al-Farica "belongs to A.E. Crimean. Here for the first time the Russian translation of the novel is published, which was especially for the series "Literary Monuments" by V. N. Kirpichenko.
