1847, great hunger in Ireland. Hundreds of thousands of people die, tenants drive off the land for non -payment, the desperate peasants avenge landowners. Everyone who manages to scrape at least some amount try to sail abroad, to America or Canada. On one of these ships - "star of the seas" - completely different people converge.
