The collection of Robert Lewis Stevenson “Ballad” first saw the light at the end of 1890. It contained five ballads in English based on Polynesian and Scottish stories. The Russian -speaking reader is primarily familiar with the “Heather El” ballad from this collection, published in 1941 in the translation of Samuel Yakovlevich Marshak called “heather honey”, and then even part of the Soviet school curriculum.
Surprisingly, the two title ballads of the collection and the largest of them, “The Song of Rachero” and “The Feast of Hunger”, have not yet been published in Russian. In this book, the reader can get acquainted with the full translation of this collection of Stevenson, as well as draw a lot of additional information about the stories told in it from the translator of Kyara Varotari
