The book of Yuri Dombrovsky (1909-1978) about Shakespeare "The dark lady. The story in the stories" was first published in 1969, and immediately gained wide popularity among the then reading public. However, the fate of this book was difficult. The first option was written in Alma-Ata exile in 1946. But only twenty years later the writer had the opportunity to publish it, and Pavel Bunin made a wonderful book schedule a series of illustrations for a future book. Dombrovsky complemented the story with two large fragments, one of which was to become the final, the third part of the book, and the other to enter the first part. But the publishing house was not entitled to increase the "planned" volume of the book. In 1968, the finished set of the book was scattered - for reasons of the non -literary. Illustrations were not published. However, the missing fragments remained in the author’s archive.
The book makes an attempt to restore the author’s plan based on the close analysis of texts included in the first edition and not included in it, and illustrations are published for the first time. In "applications" two works of Dombrovsky about Shakespeare are printed, as well as correspondence with the authoritative Russian Shakespeared Alexander Anikst, who praised the “dark -skinned lady”
