According to contemporaries, Ivan Shmelev became “the most Russian” of the emigrant writers, who pronounced the whole “deep truth” about Russia, creating it cleared of accidents, a beautiful and bright image, spiritualized by higher meaning and faith. Having gone beyond the scope of national literature, Shmelev’s work gained universal significance, his works gained European fame and were translated into dozens of languages. The writer twice was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. The real publication included the most famous works of Ivan Shmelev, which represent different facets of his work: the story “Man from the restaurant”, “Rosstani”, “Inexhaustible Chalice” and the novel “Summer of the Lord”.
