This is my war. I was seven years old when it began. I lived in Rostov-on-Don. Dad went to the front, we left the city when the Germans were already entering him. A long road, in warmths, under bombing. When the bombers flew, we fled in the field and hid in funnels from bombs. They reached Przhevalsk, this is Kyrgyzstan.
Rostov returned as soon as he was released.
Dad never returned. Rostov was literally broken, the ruins were still smoking. The most difficult and hungry winter. And then I wrote my first poem.
