This is a novel about loneliness that feeds creativity, about the realities and illusory hopes, the results of a long life in gray and bright colors. This is a novel about the vision of the past, appearing in the robe of sorrows, silent and alienated reproach.

In the center of the "Line of the Shadow"-the fate of the Russian writer-immigrant living in New York. Written in the first person, the novel is confessed, although the author immediately warns: he and the main character are not the same thing at all. Before readers, the story of an elderly person, overtaken by an oncological disease, unfolds. The action of the novel against the background of the struggle for survival is interspersed with reminiscences, memories of the living in Russia and America, philosophical thoughts about the oddity of being. The author does not spare the protagonist (and hence himself) - and in this sense the narrative is extremely frankly and ruthlessly. Being in an unknown outcome of treatment, preparing for the worst, the hero judges himself a court of conscience, does not find excuses for some actions, rethinks them again.

And the fate, meanwhile, prepares an unexpected round - he gets to the world famous Brazilian healer and involuntarily pretends the collapse of his activity. And here, in Brazil, the hero is waiting for a late explosion of passion, short as a convulsive sip of air, love
