In the novel “Sensation” (1938), the famous British prose writer, Ivlin V,, perhaps,, as in any other book, demonstrates a truly Jeromic ability to create funny literally from nothing, growing an absurd “error tragicomedy” from one trifling confusion. The modest author of the Lug and Thicket column in a provincial newspaper, due to an editorial confusion, is sent instead of his namesake - a famous writer and traveler - a military correspondent to the distant African country of Esmailia, where, according to rumors, a civil war is brewing. Upon arrival there, he finds out that there is no war in the country. But the sensation is expected from Mr. Tappock, and a quiet nonsense, finding himself in the former colony crazy and dangerous for the life of the everyday conditions, tries to complete the editorial task - and at the same time survive
