Georgy Markov is one of the most famous Soviet writers, for many years he headed the Union of Writers of the USSR. Siberian, the son of a hunter, Markov knew a peasant life well. Already the first novel - “Strict” (1939–1946) - brought the author fame. Having taken the story of one family as the basis of the plot, G. Markov, described the events that took place in his native land from the Russian-Japanese to the civil war. The continuation of this story was the novel “The Salt of the Earth” (1954–1960), where the fate of the children and grandchildren of Matvey Strogov, engaged in the transformation of post -war Siberia, the development and use of the wealth of the taiga for the benefit of people, was traced. Critics compare this epic story with M. Sholokhov’s novel “Quiet Don”: “Siberian writers have tried to create their“ Quiet Don ”for a decade. The Siberian way is no less colorful than Cossack ”(R. Senchin) G. Markov’s novel was filmed, in the series “Salt of the Earth” the main role of Maxim Strogov was played by Kirill Lavrov
