The action of the novel, the family saga about the fate of several generations of Bellflers, covers for more than two hundred years and occurs in a fictional mountainous region on the shores of Lake Lake-Nuar somewhere in the north of the United States.
Events unfold in an imagination of the castle built in memory of the clan nest of Bellflers in France, from where the ancestor of the Jean-Pierre family came to the young country at the end of the 18th century.
In the center of the narrative - a generation of the family of the age of twentieth, Gideon Belflier and his powerful and passionate wife Leia. On the example of the amazing, and sometimes almost fantastic events of their life, the author unfolds a wide panorama, where the stories of fatal love are intertwined with descriptions of cruel crimes, and the story of financial geniuses with philosophical thoughts about the greatness and nullity of human nature.
