Ivan Antonovich Efremov (1908-1972) possessed, one might say, properties of several optical devices at once. As an outstanding paleontologist, the creator of the science of taphonomy at the junction of geology and biology, he, like an inverted binoculars, observed a deep past. As a science fiction writer, a philosopher-cosmist and a social thinker, he, like a telescope, peered into a distant future. Such a breadth of views and the depth of analysis allowed Ivan Efremov to create the most important trilogy for Russian science fiction. "Andromeda nebulae (1957) is a novel about the cloudless communist future that will inevitably come. "Blade of a razor" (1963) is anxious doubts about the possibilities of this bright future. And the Hour of the Bull "(1968) is a direct warning about the social, environmental and moral disaster that threatens the world.
