Ivan Ivanovich Petrov (real name - Krause, 1920-2003) - Soviet Russian opera singer (bass), actor, teacher, publicist. People"s Artist of the USSR (1959) Laureate of two Stalinist awards (1950, 1951).
“I like the young performer, his wonderful voice. But what is this surname - Krause? We just survived the terrible war. In people, hostility to German surnames still remains in people. Let him take a pseudonym, ”Comrade Stalin admonished the performer after the premiere of Serov’s opera“ Enjoy Power ”. And instead of Krause, Petrov appeared on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater - in order to overshadow most world performers with his magnificent bass. No wonder he was known as a favorite of the Red Leader, but musical critics did not just write about him: Outstanding Russian BAS.
Petrov was the soloist of the big in his golden season, his partners in the stage were Lemeshev, Kozlovsky, Pirogov, Mikhailov, etc. In his book he talks about his amazing fate, recalls great artists and musicians.
