This book is memories of more than twenty years of acquaintance of the famous primatologist Robert Sapolsky with East Africa. Being a very young scientist, the author first came to the reserve in Kenya with the intention of testing his guesses about the nature of stress in people in wild grains, which is not surprising, given how similar primates are to people in their biological and psychological reactions. Actually, Sapolski himself does not separate himself from his wards - experimental animals, which is obvious from the name of the book. And this gives the narrative special charm and power. Together with the author, who gave his favorites biblical names, we learn about their life, suffering, love, rivalry, struggle for power, illness and death. No less vivid characters of the book are local residents: farmers, huntsmen, small bosses and simple hard workers. Over two decades in Africa, Sapolsky has been experiencing his own dangerous adventures, and the tragedies of friends, and the change of political regimes - and writes about it so that you feel almost a participant in the events
