“Pit” is the greatest work of Andrei Platonov. A philosophical parable and a tough satire, grotesquely showing the inhumanity and meaninglessness of totalitarianism, seeking to build a happy future by destroying the entire old.
The thirty-year-old worker Voshchev is fired from the mechanical plant due to thoughtfulness and reduction in the pace of labor. He goes to a neighboring city, where, together with other workers, he begins to dig a pit, which will become the beginning of a bright future.
But over time it becomes clear that they dig a real grave.
