Of all written by Friedrich Naumovich Gorenstein (1932-2002), only one story was published in his homeland in Soviet times. Outstanding novels "Psalm" and "Place" remained in manuscripts read only by few friends. But these friends - Lazar Lazarev, Yuri Trifonov, Fazil Iskander, Viktor Slavkin, Mark Rozovsky - evaluated his prose very highly. Cinematographers set his talent even higher - among the films shot according to his scenarios, there were cult Solaris "and" Slave of Love. Andrei Tarkovsky wrote in his diary: "He is a genius". In 1980, Gorenstein emigrated to Germany. But he did not leave Russia: “I could write and not use all the luggage that I removed from Russia,” he said in Berlin.
