In the “Shelok” operation, Philip Roth achieved the complete indistinguishability of the document and fiction. He takes the fantastic series of real and fictional characters onto the stage, including himself and his double - the author of the provocative theory of the outcome of Jews from Israel to Europe, special services agents, a military criminal, Palestinian refugees and an irresistible woman from a certain organization of anonymous anti -Semites. The psychologism and stylistics of the novel will be especially interesting to the Russian reader - after all, the narrator himself finds the echo of F.M. Dostoevsky. For this work, the author was awarded the Pen-Folkner award
