Harry Gray wrote this biographical novel in a single chamber of the Sing-Sing prison. Being a member of the criminal gang, which the whole country was afraid of, he realistically reflected the life of America from the Great Depression: dry law, Buthlegers, prostitution, robbery and murders. The heroes of the book are immigrants from poor emigrant quarters of New York. In conditions of lawlessness and lack of work, they pave their way in life with the help of friendship and pistol
