Loni May lives in Washington and works as an illustrator: draws birds at the Smithsonian Institute. Due to her mother’s illness, she has to return home to the swampy lands of Northern Florida - to where she grew up, and from where she always wanted to escape.
Loni is trying to establish a difficult relationship with his mother, make peace with his brother and his wife. Helping a mother with things, Loni finds a note with the words "I need to tell you something about Boyd"s death." Boyd - her father - drowned 25 years ago in the swamp. His death was considered suicide, but the causes of death are much worse than Loni could imagine.
Now it is drawn on a dangerous journey, covered with the secrets of the past. Having decided to find the truth and avenge the evil caused by his family, Loni must decide: to join violence or put an end to him
